Why Do People Run From Me?

Why do people run and scream each time I come on land?
I only want to make some friends, why can't they understand?

I roar my greetings pleasantly to everyone I see...
I share with them my pretty light that sometimes comes from me.

It is a pretty light indeed I shoot out of my mouth
I do not see why people scream and run from north to south

I guess I may be clumsy and I am a little loud
But having friends that stay around would really make me proud.

I guess that I've been through a lot, evolved a time or three
Will I always be this ugly now?  I guess we'll wait and see...
